Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our products, sourcing, and delivery.
Our honey
Is your Yemeni Sidr honey genuine and authentic?
Yes. Our Yemeni Sidr honey is sourced directly from trusted beekeepers in the Hadhramaut valleys of Yemen. It is 100% raw, unfiltered, and unprocessed with no additives, preservatives, or artificial ingredients of any kind.
What is the difference between raw honey and supermarket honey?
Supermarket honey is typically heat-treated and ultra-filtered, which destroys its natural enzymes, antioxidants, and pollen. Raw honey is extracted and bottled with minimal processing, preserving its full nutritional profile. Our honeys are never heated above the natural temperature of a beehive.
Why has my honey crystallised?
Crystallisation is a completely natural process and is a sign that your honey is pure and raw. It does not mean the honey has gone off. To return it to a liquid state, gently warm the jar in a bowl of warm (not boiling) water. Never microwave raw honey as this destroys its natural properties.
How should I store my honey?
Store your honey in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate. When stored correctly in a sealed jar, pure raw honey has an exceptionally long shelf life.
How much honey should I take daily?
Most people take 1 to 2 teaspoons of raw honey daily. Many prefer to take it on an empty stomach in the morning, dissolved in warm water, or simply straight from the spoon. Consistency is key to experiencing the full benefits over time.
Is your honey suitable for children?
Our honey is suitable for children over 12 months of age. Honey of any kind should never be given to infants under 12 months old due to the risk of infant botulism.
Is your honey suitable for diabetics?
Raw honey does contain natural sugars. If you have diabetes or a blood sugar condition, please consult your GP or healthcare provider before adding honey to your diet. We are a food supplier and cannot provide medical advice.
Shilajit
What is Shilajit?
Shilajit is a natural mineral-rich resin that forms over centuries in the rock layers of the Himalayas and the Altai mountains. It is packed with fulvic acid, humic acid, and over 84 naturally occurring trace minerals, and has been used in traditional wellness for thousands of years.
How do I take Shilajit resin?
Take a small portion of resin (roughly the size of a grain of rice, around 300 to 500mg) and dissolve it in warm water, milk, or herbal tea. Do not use boiling water. Take once or twice daily, ideally on an empty stomach. Most people notice a difference after 2 to 4 weeks of consistent use.
Is Shilajit safe to take?
Shilajit is a natural food supplement and is generally well tolerated. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18, or taking prescribed medication, please consult your GP before use. Our Shilajit is tested for purity before each batch.
How do I know if Shilajit is genuine?
Genuine Shilajit resin is dark brown to black, has a tar-like consistency, softens when warm and hardens when cold, has a strong earthy smell, and dissolves fully in warm water turning it golden-brown. At Herbal Stems we only stock Shilajit that meets our strict quality standards.
Black seed oil
What is black seed oil?
Black seed oil is cold-pressed from the seeds of Nigella Sativa, a flowering plant native to Southwest Asia. Also known as black cumin or kalonji, it has been used in traditional wellness for over 2,000 years. Our oil is sourced from Ethiopia, which produces seeds with some of the highest thymoquinone concentrations available.
How do I take black seed oil?
Start with half a teaspoon once daily and gradually increase to one teaspoon twice daily. It can be taken directly, mixed with raw honey to soften the strong flavour, added to warm water, or blended into a smoothie. It can also be applied topically to skin or scalp.
Why does black seed oil taste so strong?
The intense, peppery flavour is a sign of its potency and comes from a naturally high concentration of thymoquinone. If your black seed oil tastes bland or mild, it is likely low quality or diluted. Our Ethiopian cold-pressed oil has a strong, distinctive flavour which is completely normal and expected.
